Council opened the meeting by recognizing youth football teams and cheer squads that recently won regional Super Bowls and by presenting certificates to players and coaches.
Coaches thanked parents, volunteers and assistant coaches. A speaker representing the cheer program said the program fields four teams across ages 5–14 and that all four teams placed first in recent competition against teams from Yucca Valley, 29 Palms, Hesperia and Big Bear.
Mayor Mattis announced that the city broke ground on a new park dedicated to the Desert Hot Springs Eagles program at the corner of Hacienda and Chola Drive, saying the city expects it to be the program’s new home and to be ready in about a year. Council members and staff thanked coaches, volunteers and parents for their ongoing support of youth programming.
The recognition underscored the council’s ongoing support for youth recreation and the council noted the new park will offer a dedicated space for football, cheer and senior baseball programs.
