Council approves SBCTA agreement to begin River Road PA/ED phase

City Manager explained the agreement is the first step to get design and environmental work completed so the city can apply for construction grants. "We're actively going out for a grant right now to be able to have the construction of this project," staff said, adding the goal was to secure grant funding so local taxpayers would not shoulder construction costs.
A motion to approve the agreement was moved and seconded, and the council approved the item by roll call vote with all voting members recorded as yes. Staff said design and grant pursuit would continue and projected construction roughly two years out if funding and approvals proceed.
The council did not adopt construction contracts at this meeting; the approval authorizes design and environmental work and allows staff to pursue subsequent funding opportunities.
