Bridgeport moves forward with $200,000 CDBG streets application, targets alleys and two unpaved sections

The Bridgeport borough council voted March 24 to apply for 2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to repave a set of streets and alleys prioritized by borough staff.
"The annual maximum award for the block grant is $200,000," borough staff member Mr. Truman said, noting the borough typically provides a local match ("sometimes it's $50,000, sometimes it's $100,000") to expand the number of streets that can be addressed. Truman said that over the last nine years block grant funding has repaved roughly 99% of borough streets, and that two remaining unrepaved stretches are Coats Street and Beach Court; this year's application focuses primarily on alleys with those exceptions.
Staff cautioned that $200,000 will not cover all the listed segments and that the likely approach is multi-year sequencing of projects. Councilmembers suggested publishing a map to show residents which blocks would benefit from the award and to generate public interest.
The resolution to apply for CDBG funds was approved by the council. If the borough receives the grant, staff said they will bring a project list and local-match funding recommendations back to council for approval.
