During verbal communications at the March 17 meeting of the Los Gatos Town Council, multiple residents urged the council to consider a resolution and other steps to limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. Speakers said their requests reflected local concerns about safety and civil rights.
Jeff Suzuki, speaking as a private citizen, said he had participated in a "handwriting the constitution" project but pivoted to immigration enforcement concerns and asked the town to make its position known. "It is important that our town government make their voices heard on this particular issue," Suzuki said, adding that community vigils and activism would continue until the council acts.
Sue Ann Lorig and Nigel Chandler (both identified as Los Gatos residents) echoed Suzuki, urging the council to adopt a non‑cooperation posture with ICE and to bring the topic onto a future agenda. Lee Quintana and other public‑commenters described the issue as both local and personal—the fear that family members might need to carry passports when leaving home—and asked council members to consider a formal resolution.
Council members acknowledged the speakers and clarified when immigration enforcement could be discussed (verbal communications and council matters) but did not act on a resolution at the meeting. The town attorney and staff noted procedural distinctions and that Brown Act and agenda‑setting rules govern council action. No formal motion or vote on immigration enforcement occurred during the session; the matter remains a public‑comment request for future council consideration if a member or proponent places it on an agenda.
