Los Altos commission narrows 2026 draft to pilot wayfinding, downtown accessibility and San Antonio study

The commission reviewed a draft 2026 work plan organized under four goals — Complete Streets stewardship, multimodal investment, addressing public‑safety locations, and managed capital projects — and signaled agreement on a more targeted approach for early work.

Members supported narrowing some ambitions into specific, implementable pilots. Several commissioners advocated for a pilot wayfinding program at one or two corridors or school routes to test signage and route markers before any citywide rollout. Commissioners also asked to coordinate any downtown accessibility recommendations with existing downtown vision work and the general‑plan updates so the commission's contributions are complementary rather than duplicative.

On San Antonio Road, staff reported the final report was submitted and said the city intends to advertise for consultants and seek council authorization in the spring, with consultant work expected to start by July and a public‑engagement schedule that could extend about a year. Commissioners asked staff to identify small, early actions — such as signage, temporary markings or focused traffic calming — that the commission can champion while larger design and traffic studies proceed.

The commission agreed to present the draft work plan to City Council in March and requested clarifying language and timelines be incorporated before the packet is finalized.
