Transportation committee reports 2025 work, seeks council direction on safety priorities and potential Stanford funds
Summary
The town's transportation committee (BPTS) reported it finalized a local roadway safety plan that the council adopted and submitted to CCAG, supported town events and identified 2026 priorities including evacuation-route safety, e-bike regulation monitoring and possible use of a $100,000 Stanford contribution for Alpine Road safety.
Ed, chair of the Bicycle, Pedestrian & Traffic Safety (BPTS) committee, briefed the council on 2025 highlights and the committee's proposed 2026 priorities. He noted the committee finalized the town's local roadway safety plan (adopted by council and submitted to the County Association of Governments) and supported large community events such as Zots to Tots and PV Palooza through coordination with the sheriff's department and volunteer CERT members.
For 2026, BPTS proposed sustaining the liaison with the sheriff's department, participating in the county safety-element process as timing allows, monitoring state e-bike regulations and any county white papers or templates, reviewing speed-camera pilot outcomes in other jurisdictions, advising on evacuation-route safety, and providing input on the possible allocation of a $100,000 Stanford contribution tied to the Portola Terrace development for Alpine Road safety measures.
Council members thanked BPTS for the committee's work and encouraged continued coordination with EPC and town staff; Ed said the committee will consider whether to revise its charter and may return with recommendations for a clearer committee name and charter updates.
