Council adopts Palos Verdes Peninsula multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan

The plan identifies hazards (earthquake, landslide, wildfire, drought and others), ranks risk by probability and impact, and lists more than 100 mitigation actions for the city and peninsula stakeholders.
Consultant Megan described the expedited timeline and public engagement, noting FEMA requires an adopted hazard mitigation plan for eligibility in certain grant programs. Staff recommended adoption and authorization to submit the plan to Cal OES and FEMA for review and final approval; staff also said integrating the plan into the city's safety element can reduce the local match for federal projects.
Council members asked no substantive questions; the council adopted the resolution by roll call and authorized staff to submit the plan to Cal OES and FEMA. Staff said Cal OES will have a 45-day review period and FEMA also typically takes a comparable review window before issuing final approval.
