The City Council approved Amendment No. 37 to its law-enforcement service contract with the San Bernardino County Sheriff and authorized a $467,200 supplemental appropriation to fund the FY2025–26 increase.
City staff explained the increase stems from a county-level labor agreement (SEBA) that raised salaries and benefits, which in turn raised the cost of contract policing services. "During that time, the county sheriff department has completed their labor negotiation...and their salary increased, the benefit increased, which in turn is going to increase our contract by $467,000," the city manager said.
Council members expressed concern about the scale of the increase and the long-term budgeting implications. Discussion touched on response-time metrics and staffing levels; the sheriff's office representatives said they can supply response-time data going back to the roll-out of their CAD system in mid‑2023 and will provide trends for the council. Several councilmembers said they expect staff to present data that helps explain service levels and operational pressures when discussing future budget choices.
The council approved the amendment and the supplemental appropriation on a roll-call vote.
