The J O Combs Unified School District governing board voted at its Jan. 22 special meeting to shift regular meeting start times to 5:30 p.m. and to keep Student of the Month recognitions as part of the agenda. Board members emphasized shorter presentation formats for celebrations and agreed staff should adjust agendas to keep overall meeting length manageable.
Staff demonstrated BoardDocs’ online voting feature, which shows vote results on the meeting screen as members cast ballots. A brief demonstration showed how votes appear live; staff and members agreed to schedule training and to pilot the feature in a short meeting before broader rollout. Staff said the BoardDocs voting display is part of the district’s existing subscription and that adoption would improve transparency for online viewers.
Board members also reviewed the site-liaison program, in which each board member is assigned one or more school campuses to visit and serve as a point of contact. Assignments made at the meeting include Jason Beach for Simonton and other members taking the high school, Center for Success, Harmon, Ranch Elementary and Ellsworth. Staff will circulate the finalized liaison list and relevant expectations to school principals.
Board president and staff said the changes aim to balance public access and family attendance with efficient meeting management. The board adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
