Council introduces ordinance to adopt 2025 California building standards; public hearing set Oct. 28

The San Dimas City Council read by title and introduced Ordinance 13‑31 on Oct. 14, a city‑initiated municipal code text amendment to adopt the 2025 edition of the California Building Code (volumes 1 and 2) and related residential, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire and green building standards, along with the 2024 International Property Maintenance Code. Garrett Tarango, Building and Safety Manager, said the triannual code update incorporates state law changes and model‑code updates; staff recommended introduction and scheduling a public hearing to receive public input on Oct. 28, 2025. Tarango noted the effective date for the code adoption would be 180 days after publication, which staff said is Jan. 1, 2026.
Council members had minor clarifying questions about whether changes were substantive; staff said changes were minor clarifications and definition updates. The council voted to introduce the ordinance and schedule a public hearing on Oct. 28, 2025.
