San Bruno committee cites small wins for bike, pedestrian safety as downtown group debuts video

San Bruno —The newly formed Complete Streets Committee presented its first annual report Tuesday, listing early accomplishments on traffic-calming reviews and outreach while setting goals for 2026. The council also watched a downtown promotional video from the San Bruno Improvement Group and heard an update from Recology on fall cleanup efforts.
Rhonda Collins, cochair of the Complete Streets Committee (CSC), said the body is a merger of previous traffic-safety and bicycle-pedestrian committees and that its responsibilities include reviewing projects for compliance with the Complete Streets policy, advising on safe routes to school and the city—s street master plan, and providing community input.
—We provide an annual report to the city council on committee updates,— Collins said, noting members and staff who support the committee and listing accomplishments on College Drive, Crestmore Drive and Huntington Avenue.
Cochair Matthew Gaines highlighted outreach events such as Bike to Work Day and efforts to promote bike stations at the BART and Caltrain stations. Collins asked residents to submit requests to the public-works engineering email (pwengineering@sambruno.ca.gov) or deliver them to the public-works office for staff review.
Sedena Traxler, president of the San Bruno Improvement Group, introduced a short video showcasing downtown merchants and invited donations to support beautification, events and a planned mill project.
—This video is not about a someday downtown. It—s about a downtown we have today,— Traxler said.
Kirsten Pinocchio, general manager for Recology San Bruno, summarized the fall community cleanup: the event served 369 residents, collected about 57,000 pounds of material and partnered with e-recycling and Clean Harbors for proper disposal; Recology reported 525 pickups of abandoned waste from January through November.
Council members thanked the groups and encouraged residents to engage with the downtown survey and upcoming events. The council took no formal vote on the presentations; staff will continue to receive requests and report back on projects through the capital-improvement planning process.
