Staff estimated the immediate package of improvements at roughly $50,000, driven in part by mobilization costs for contractors in the region and the need for high‑visibility materials and templates for ladder‑style crosswalks. Council members questioned the scope and asked whether some tasks (sign procurement and installation, striping) could be performed in‑house or bundled with upcoming street projects to reduce cost. Staff replied they will pursue grant funding and consider additive alternates in upcoming street bids to lower the net cost.
Council directed staff to pursue grant opportunities and other funding sources and to return with an implementation plan and authorization for the project. Staff said they have already coordinated with the superintendent and the sheriff’s department on the analysis and will continue outreach.
