Cleveland Avenue reconstruction moves toward construction after final clearances and bids

Public works presented a status update on the Cleveland Avenue improvement project, calling it a signature downtown investment to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety, accessibility, lighting, on‑street parking and landscaping. Staff said grants and state/federal funding totaling roughly $4.4 million have been secured, CDOT design clearances are complete, right‑of‑way acquisition is finished, and contract documents are ready.
The project design doubles on‑street parking to about 92 spaces, adds ADA sidewalks and ramps, upgrades lighting, increases tree plantings and irrigation, and creates programmable space for businesses. Staff reported a bid opening on March 20 and said they are evaluating bids; the board will consider a construction contract award at the April meeting and construction is expected to begin in May.
Trustees and staff praised the project’s potential to support downtown businesses and improve safety; staff will post the project fly‑through on the town website.
