San Dimas introduces CalPERS contract amendment to reflect PEPRA changes

City staff presented a resolution of intent and an ordinance to amend the City of San Dimas’ contract with the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) to reflect the California Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act (PEPRA). The council introduced ordinance 13-35 and adopted the resolution on Feb. 24.
Cindy Balderas, the city’s human-resources manager, told the council that PEPRA, enacted in January 2013, restructured retirement tiers and compensation limits; although the law applied automatically, CalPERS is requesting contracting agencies formally update their agreements to reflect PEPRA compliance. Balderas described the current step as an administrative update; the ordinance will come back for a second reading and adoption on March 24, 2026. Council voted to introduce the ordinance and adopt the resolution by a 5–0 vote.
