Regional planning agency seeks Barren County participation in hazard mitigation and strategic plan update

Ty Foster, a community development specialist with the regional development district (BRADD), asked the Barren County Fiscal Court on March 17 to participate in local steering committees to refresh the county strategic plan and to update the regional hazard mitigation plan.
Foster said the process will not replace the existing plan but will refresh goals and data to reflect current needs and funding opportunities; BRADD will host a flexible schedule of steering-committee meetings and provide handouts and online material. He noted that adoption of the updated hazard mitigation plan is required by FEMA for jurisdictions to remain eligible for hazard mitigation funding.
Foster encouraged elected officials, community leaders and partners to participate in the review and to help identify projects and priorities; he offered handouts and a link to planning.brad.org for the existing plan.
The court received the presentation and asked staff to accept materials and share them with relevant department heads and committee chairs. The court will consider two future resolutions after the steering-committee work concludes: one to approve the updated county strategic plan and another to adopt the regional hazard mitigation plan required by FEMA.
