The Community High School District 99 Board of Education voted unanimously to award life-safety contracts for structural steel and demolition at North and South High in the aggregate amount of $568,956.
Administration told the board the work stems from a 10-year life-safety survey and a recent amendment prompted by a changed snow-load determination. Travis, who presented the item, said White and Company solicited bids from 55 qualified contractors and the resulting package came in just under $569,000. He told the board the district has funds available in fund 90 to cover the work.
Board members moved and seconded the approval during the recommendations-for-action portion of the meeting; roll call votes were recorded as ayes by the members present and the motion carried.
Superintendent-level remarks at the meeting clarified that if the amendment is approved by the approving authority (White and Company and state reviewers as applicable), the district will file paperwork showing the work has been completed and compliant with the survey’s requirements. Administration said bids for the structural steel and demolition components had to be re-solicited because those components were not awarded in the original bid packages.
The board also separately approved the underlying 10-year safety survey report earlier in the meeting. Administration indicated that, following the contracts and any required approvals, the district will proceed with the work under standard public-contracting and invoicing procedures.
