City staff outlines nearly $900,000 in upcoming park repairs and playground upgrades

Staff said demolition and installation work for a restroom replacement at Los Angeles Park is scheduled for Jan. 12, with temporary porta‑potties and hand‑washing stations to be provided during construction. A Delray Park playground retrofit is under way; staff described replacement panels, ADA swings and new climbing features but said supply issues delayed some posts and that crews are working to expedite parts.
The commission discussed Little League fundraising and a vendor punch list for ballpark improvements. Staff said there is roughly $150,000 in Little League funds proposed for fencing, dugout covers and other upgrades; the Little League board must approve the use of those funds before the city proceeds.
Staff noted that capital projects often incur higher costs than initial estimates due to prevailing wage and soft costs. Commissioners asked for more detailed cost breakdowns and timelines; staff committed to providing additional documentation and to coordinating with the Little League board and council before contracting work.
