A board member who attended a county meeting described two Measure B funding categories: noncompetitive education and encouragement funds and competitive capital grants for projects. The commissioner noted the county’s app—similar to SeeClickFix—routes maintenance requests and, if integrated, could allow county reports on county roads to be routed to the appropriate city department for Gilroy assets.
Staff said the competitive grant cycle opens in December and that applications are due by 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, if the commission wants to pursue that funding. Staff also cautioned that the commission cannot submit or authorize grant applications on the city’s behalf without council authorization; any commission interest in applying should be routed to council for direction and staff authorization.
Commissioners asked whether the county app interfaces with the city’s GIS asset map; staff said the county has a GIS system showing assets but was not certain if it directly integrates with the city's mapping. Commissioners recommended inviting the county public health team to a January meeting to discuss the education/encouragement funds and identify eligible projects.
Next steps recorded were further internal research on GIS and app interoperability and preparing information for council if the commission decides to seek Measure B competitive funding.
