Ms. Scott, who coordinated the district’s Building Healthy Communities grant received through Wayne State University, summarized how the one‑year grant supplied recess equipment, $1,000 gift cards for physical‑education departments, daily nutrition messaging at some schools and staff wellness activities. “It is just a one‑year grant… and as you’ll see, there’s some lasting positive effects,” Ms. Scott said, describing school‑level activities and a staff walking challenge that drew about 200 participants.
Superintendent Mike Wager told the board the district also has grant funding to support two attendance agents and that several of the training opportunities under consideration would be fully grant‑funded. “We will be sending out another postcard … to all the registered voters of our school district, giving them an update of where things are,” Wager said, noting the district hopes state infrastructure grant funding will help reimburse recent general‑fund roof payments.

The meeting ended with announcements about an athletic‑field groundbreaking on Thursday the 26th and a follow‑up postcard mailing about bond projects. The board adjourned after agreeing to place the athletic‑field budget item on the next agenda for additional information and discussion.
