Council approves $5,000 historic society sponsorship, event permissions; tables county sports sponsorship

The Red Oak Town Council approved a $5,000 sponsorship for the Red Oak Area Historic Preservation Society and authorized the society's ad book letter during the Aug. 11 meeting. Commissioner Sandra Russ moved to approve the ad placement and the $5,000 sponsorship; Commissioner Tony Bennett seconded and the motion carried 4-0.
BoxHause Gym owner Delwin Clark presented upcoming events, including a March 28 5K and a Sept. 13 yoga class at Ennis Park and asked permission to use the town seal on promotional flyers for the collaborative project. The council approved use of the Town Seal on the flyer (motion by Commissioner Scott Briley, seconded by Commissioner Craig New; motion carried 4-0).
Mayor Levell Langley presented a renewal request from the Knights Athletic Club for sponsorship of football and basketball; the council voted to renew at the previous year's level (motion by Commissioner Craig New, seconded by Commissioner Scott Briley; motion carried 4-0). The board reviewed a Nash County sports sponsorship item and voted to table it (motion by Commissioner Scott Briley, seconded by Commissioner Craig New; motion carried 4-0).
During other business, Commissioner Scott Briley asked for an update and timeline for new basketball goals at Ennis Park; Nash County Commissioner Robbie Davis said he would contact the contractor on the town's behalf. The meeting adjourned at 6:51 p.m.
