Board unanimously approves extension of Head Start MOU serving up to 94 children

The Rockport-Fulton ISD board unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding March 19 extending the district’s partnership with the Head Start Birth-to-5 program.
Principal Poland described the MOU as an extension of an existing collaboration that places Head Start classrooms on district campuses and helps the district serve up to 94 students; Poland said about 91 students are enrolled now and that Head Start funds paraprofessionals, instructional materials and two family advocates who help maintain full enrollment.
"The greatest benefit is having them there already on our campus... They're already a pirate," Poland said, describing how the partnership eases transitions into the district’s preschool and elementary programs.
Trustee Randall moved to approve the MOU and Trustee Cruzan seconded; the board voted 5–0 in favor.
What’s next: The district will continue the on-campus Head Start classes and work with Head Start staff on enrollment, instructional coordination and in-kind matches such as facilities use and food-service support.
