Superintendent Dr. Sarmani said staff convened 72 students, staff and parents in March to identify five priority areas for the district’s next five years and presented a draft mission — "empower each student to excel and lead every day." Trustees discussed wording options, with some members suggesting the shorter phrase "empower each student to excel every day" and others defending the inclusion of "lead." The superintendent said keeping the statement short will help the district pair the language with its shield logo and make it easier for staff and the community to internalize.
Board members and staff also discussed next steps for the district’s overall strategic plan. Superintendent Sarmani said staff plan to return with a full strategic-plan recommendation later in the school year, targeting the June regular board meeting for adoption. The board did not take final action on the mission or strategic plan at the March 30 meeting; staff will continue gathering feedback from trustees, teachers and families before bringing a formal recommendation to the trustees for adoption.
