Council keeps Home Builders Association seat and expands housing affordability advisory committee

Councilmember J.C. Several councilmembers pushed back on removing the dedicated seat. Councilmember Solette Andrews and others said appointments are the council’s responsibility and that the city should preserve builder representation while creating flexibility for at-large members. After discussion, Councilmember Andrews moved to keep the Home Builders Association–designated seat and add two at-large positions (bringing the committee from 11 to 13 members). The motion passed unanimously.
The council noted the city is the primary governmental actor in local affordable housing policy and emphasized the desire to include a mix of builders, lenders, nonprofit representatives and people with lived experience on advisory panels.
