NAACP and Toys for Tots highlight civic education and volunteer service at budget hearing

During the public hearing on the recommended FY2027 budget, the board heard from community organizations emphasizing civic education and volunteerism.

Pamela Garner, co-chair of the Gloucester branch of the NAACP's Pathways to Leadership Program, asked the community to participate in a civic-education seminar series beginning March 26 and invited board members to present on the program's monthly sessions; she distributed a flyer and provided contact information for the NAACP branch.

Representatives from Toys for Tots explained that the regional program now operates year-round on initiatives that include literacy partnerships with Title I classrooms, foster-care support, back-to-school efforts and volunteer-driven distributions. The speaker noted that Gloucester County Public Schools supplied a particularly high level of student and teacher volunteers in the most recent campaign and recognized specific students and staff who logged substantial volunteer hours. Toys for Tots reported that the regional program served about 7,400 children during the 2025 season.
