North Las Vegas recognizes local businesses and schools, proclaims Fire Prevention Week and launches City Connect

The North Las Vegas City Council used its Oct. 1 meeting to recognize local businesses and schools, emphasize fire safety, and announce a new city initiative to engage small businesses.

The council named Mathnasium of North Las Vegas the October 2025 Business of the Month, praising the center’s partnership with the Clark County School District and its work with students from kindergarten through grade 12. Alan Brown, who accepted remarks with his center director Destin, described his decade of work with Mathnasium and thanked the council for the recognition.

Mayor Goins Brown read a city certificate recognizing CREATE for establishing a third West Coast manufacturing facility in North Las Vegas. The mayor said the CREATE expansion occupies about 572,000 square feet across two buildings in the Sun Pointe Commercial Center and that the Home Depot partnership is projected to generate more than $90,000,000 in new sales. A company representative thanked the council and said CREATE plans ongoing local investment.

The council also presented a certificate to Principal Amanda Lush and Quantum McCall Elementary School after the school recorded a two-point increase in its NSPS star rating for the 2024-25 school year; Lush thanked the council and credited community partners and staff for supporting the school’s progress.

Mayor Goins Brown proclaimed October 2025 as Fire Prevention Week in the city and urged residents to install and maintain smoke alarms and practice home-escape plans. Jason McMullen, the city’s Fire Prevention Supervisor, thanked community partners for raising awareness about the fire risks posed by lithium-ion batteries and reiterated the department’s focus on prevention: "Fire prevention is a shared responsibility... we just wanna thank everybody for their part in putting that information out there," he said.

In the city manager’s report, staff introduced "City Connect," a cross-department program that pairs economic development, police and community services staff to meet one-on-one with local business owners to hear concerns and offer solutions. City staff also recognized several employees for recent service and bravery, including parking enforcement officer Juan Estrada for evacuating residents during a recent fire and Battalion Chief John Wright for receiving a local Rotary award.

The meeting closed after routine business and public forums with no public speakers during the second public forum.
