The Christian County Commission on March 26 recognized Ashley Marks of Ozark as one of 10 statewide recipients of Missouri’s Engaged Neighbor (Good Neighbor) honor.
David Burton, a community development specialist with the University of Missouri Extension, told the commission the Engaged Neighbor program promotes neighbor-to-neighbor connections and that Missouri Good Neighbor Week runs Sept. 28–Oct. 4. Burton said last year more than 42,000 acts of 'neighboring' were reported during the week and encouraged residents to nominate most-neighborly individuals, businesses and neighborhoods on the program website.
Commissioners presented Marks with a certificate and took photographs for the county newsletter. Burton urged simple actions — learning neighbors’ names, starting conversations and hosting small gatherings — as ways to build civic trust and community resilience.
The commission said it will include the award and nomination information in its next newsletter and encouraged residents to submit nominations when Good Neighbor Week opens later this year.
