North Las Vegas proclaims Black History Month, honors educator and local coffee stand

The North Las Vegas City Council used part of its Feb. 4 meeting to present community recognitions and a proclamation for Black History Month.
Council presented a certificate to Tim Wells, Mohave High School assistant principal, noting his recognition by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and by the Clark County School District. Tim Wells accepted and said, "I love North Las Vegas, and thank you very much."
Councilman Richard Churchill presented the February 2026 Business of the Month award to The Human Being, a drive-thru espresso and coffee stand at 5265 Camino El Norte. Churchill described the business’s customer service, loyalty program and role in Ward 4’s mornings. A representative of the business accepted the recognition and thanked the council.
Mayor Goins Brown read a proclamation declaring February 2026 as Black History Month and introduced Dr. Tara Raines, senior director for policy and advocacy at the Balmore Institute for Children's Behavioral Health, who accepted the proclamation and said she was "humbled and honored" to receive it.
The meeting also included reminders of community events (a Black History luncheon at Silver Mesa Rec Center and the mayor’s annual hair-care drive) and a brief report on recent outreach activities.
These recognitions were ceremonial; no formal council action was required to issue the proclamation or certificates.
