Norwin board recognizes state champion, approves routine agenda items by voice vote

The Norwin School District Board of Education recognized student achievements and approved a slate of routine agenda items at its March meeting.

Board President Bill Bogella called the meeting to order and introduced Doctor McCracken, who led the district's "Excellence in Norwin" presentation. Doctor McCracken introduced Landon Sidon as the district's 2026 PIAA state wrestling champion and congratulated other student athletes including Carson Champion, Nathan Klingensmith and Jack White for state-level finishes. "We are so proud to welcome and congratulate Landon Sidon," Doctor McCracken said.

Student representative Lena Den summarized student activities, including a choir trip to Disney Springs, the Norwin Theatre Company's production of "Mamma Mia" (March 19—622), the 40th annual senior citizens luncheon (about 280 attendees), Peer Buddies' World Down Syndrome Day activities and an upcoming trivia night for underclassmen.

During the business session the board approved minutes from the February meetings and then approved education agenda items 1—612, policy items 1—67 on second reading, finance items 2—67, personnel items 1—67 (previously discussed in executive session), facilities items 1—62 and athletics and activities items 1—62. Most approvals were taken by voice vote with the president declaring motions passed. The meeting also included acknowledgement of the NPESP bargaining team and a note of thanks from a participant for productive negotiations.

The board adjourned after closing business. Several items will receive additional review in April, including more detailed budget materials at the finance-committee level.
