Midway council delays decision on Storyboard sign structure pending detailed design

Midway City Council continued a request to determine whether a sign structure at Storyboard, 201 East Main Street, could remain as a historic nonconforming structure and asked the applicants to return with a more specific proposed sign face.
Planning Director Michael Henke told the council municipal code allows certain historical sign structures to remain but that any new sign face would have to meet current code. Applicants Galen DeKemper and Claire Carusillo presented goals and sample designs and said they would work with Signarama Wasatch Back and the Vision Architecture Committee. Council members said they wanted to see the actual sign design and discuss alignment with Swiss architecture and historic character; the council voted to continue the item until applicants submitted a specific design.
Applicants noted the previous sign was vinyl and suggested alternatives such as hammered metal; the council emphasized the sign should be appropriate for the building and the street.
