"This is something that I know has been a long time coming," Israel said, noting work with the legal team and staff to ensure compliance.
Councilman Burke asked whether the proposed disposition process (public auction, nonprofit adjudication, and motor-vehicle procedures) would include a vetting process and whether one category would take precedence over another; Israel responded that there is no preference and the parish would follow required legal procedures and a neighbor-next-door program where applicable.
The council voted to adopt the ordinance by voice vote (recorded as unanimous). The administration said it will follow the legal process when auctioning or transferring properties and will provide forms and procedural guidance to affected citizens and council members.
