Parks superintendent reports rising field bookings and expanded youth programming

"In 2025, our field allocations reached 9,326 bookings," Vasquez said, and reported combined municipal golf and disc-golf rounds of 17,729 (up roughly 250 rounds from the prior year). Vasquez also said the department offered more than 230 sports classes across basketball, soccer, golf, volleyball, hockey and track, and noted 221 participants in the winter basketball league and more than 500 in the fall youth soccer league.
Board members raised concerns about the cost of fields for families. Vasquez and Deputy Director Valerie Derek said the city's user fees are benchmarked to the valley and that scholarships are available for youth leagues; Derek added that a fee-structure update and review is part of the master-plan work and that staff will report later in the year if the plan recommends changes.
Vasquez encouraged residents to consult the city website for dates and registration information for winter and spring programs.
