North Las Vegas Library to add ABCmouse after approving $5,998 collection development grant application

The North Las Vegas Library District Board of Trustees approved a motion Nov. 25 to apply for a state collection development grant of about $5,998, with $4,148.97 in local in‑kind matching funds, to provide an ABCmouse subscription for children ages 2 through 8.
Shelly Alexander, filling in for Director Lewis, told the board the district added IXL last year for K–12 users and has seen parental requests for pre‑K resources. "This will fill a hole that we have a need for in the community," Alexander said, explaining ABCmouse offers age‑appropriate online early learning activities that patrons can use in the library or at home.
A trustee asked whether ABCmouse access will be tied to library cards. Alexander said the service will be included with the library card and that staff expect the system to be set up in January but that final authentication details were still pending with ABCmouse.
Trustee Kelly moved to ratify, approve and authorize the grant application and acceptance of any resulting award; the board approved the motion by voice vote.
If the district receives the award, staff said they will implement the subscription and publicize access to patrons in January.
