Culpeper County Public Schools administrators updated the School Board on Feb. 23 that, under the Governor’s introduced budget, the division anticipates an approximately $4.5 million increase in state revenue but currently projects a revenue shortfall of about $419,804 pending final Senate figures.
Dr. Tony Brads and Neal Deane said the House budget includes a 2% compensation increase while the Senate reportedly supports a 3% increase, which aligns with the division’s goals. They also discussed the Governor’s proposed “Caboose Bill,” which would amend the FY2026 budget to provide a 2% bonus for SOQ‑funded positions; Dr. Brads cautioned that accepting funds that require local match or that are not fully funded can complicate implementation because SOQ positions represent roughly two‑thirds of CCPS staff.
Administration noted the Board will hold a public hearing on the budget on March 9 and will present the final budget to the Board of Supervisors on March 12. Board members asked questions during the update; administrators said they will provide further updates once Senate figures are available.
