Betsy Smith was elected chair of the Culpeper County School Board (CCSB) Capital Planning Committee during the committee’s Feb. 25, 2026 meeting.
Division Superintendent Dr. Brads called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. and opened the floor for nominations. Committee member Kelley Pearson nominated Betsy Smith; no other nominations were made and Ms. Smith was elected chair by acclamation.
The committee then approved the meeting agenda. "Motion by Elizabeth Hutchins, second by Kelley Pearson," the minutes record, and the motion carried with all three members—Elizabeth Hutchins, Kelley Pearson and Betsy Smith—voting aye. The committee likewise approved the minutes from its Jan. 21, 2026 meeting on a motion by Hutchins, seconded by Pearson; that vote also carried unanimously.
The new chair and the committee will preside over upcoming capital planning work; the committee’s next meeting is scheduled for March 25, 2026, at the Culpeper Middle School Library at 8:30 a.m.
