Committee hears maintenance report citing vandalism-driven plumbing backlog

At a Jan. 21, 2026 meeting of the Culpeper County Public Schools Capital Planning Committee, maintenance supervisor Mr. Robson reported a noticeable increase in plumbing-related work orders and said many clogged toilets appear to result from vandalism, which has disrupted regular maintenance operations. He told committee members the department is now fully staffed, including a plumber, and progress has been made in reducing the backlog.
Mr. Robson also reported safety- and compliance-related maintenance: approximately half of the parking-lot lights at Culpeper Middle School were not functioning — he said staff suspect recent utility work by Comcast may be a factor and that the division is investigating responsibility while working to restore lighting. Annual elevator and fire-extinguisher inspections have been completed and approved.
The report noted sidewalk and curb grinding to address trip hazards at AG, Pearl Sample and Sycamore was completed over the Christmas break. Board members asked follow-up questions about the causes of the plumbing issues, scheduling, and responsibility for exterior lighting; Mr. Robson provided clarifications during the discussion.
The committee did not take formal action on maintenance items. The meeting record shows routine oversight and requests for continued monitoring and remediation.
