Culpeper County school finance committee forwards vendor and capital fund bills to full board

The Culpeper County School Board Finance Committee on Oct. 13 reviewed and recommended that a package of vendor and capital-fund bills be sent to the full Board for consideration.

Finance staff presented a list of operating and capital fund payments that included utilities, instructional subscriptions, transportation and capital-project invoices. Neal Deane highlighted several large entries on the list, including a $143,795 charge from Rappahannock Electric; a Lexia Learning Systems subscription renewal for $82,725; multiple School Capital Fund project invoices (Taft Construction’s CMS renovation entry of $940,171 and RRMM/ Mountain Run Elementary work of $758,864); a $394,835 electric-bus-related payment to Sonny Merryman; and a $297,898 entry for Blue Bird Sales of Virginia tied to transportation capital.

The committee also reviewed recurring operating expenses and food purchases, such as $232,177 to Merchants Grocery Co. and $42,248 to Pet Dairy, along with contract and service entries ranging from copier leases and cybersecurity services to speech and therapy providers.

Committee members moved to forward the bills to the full Board. The motion to send the bills passed on a motion by Christina Burnett, seconded by Patricia Baker, with all three committee members recorded as voting Aye (Patricia Baker, Christina Burnett, Kelley Pearson).

The committee did not take final action on individual vendor payments; the recommendation sends the full packet to the Culpeper County School Board for formal approval and any further discussion. Future committee and board agendas will show individual warrant or voucher approvals if the Board requests them.
