Council authorizes negotiations with BRW to design three new fire stations

The Nacogdoches City Council on Nov. 19 unanimously authorized the city manager to begin contract negotiations with Brown Reynolds Watford (BRW) to design three new fire stations related to the bond election.
Chief Brown told the council staff ran a public request-for-qualifications process in August that drew 12 firms. "We had 12 different firms reach out to us from across the nation, Texas, locally," he said, and a committee narrowed the field to two finalists before recommending BRW. He said the evaluation considered facility design, landscape integration, budget value, value engineering and comparable projects.
The authorization directs the city manager to negotiate terms; council did not adopt a final contract or award construction funds at the meeting. Ray Holliday, BRW principal architect, was introduced as available to answer questions.
Council discussion was brief and positive; one councilmember moved approval and another seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The authorization is a negotiating step only; any final agreement will return to council for formal approval and appropriation of design or construction funds.
