Council members debated a reconsideration of the city’s nomination to the Canyon Regional Water Authority (CRWA) before moving to reappoint Councilwoman Danetta Roberts to a two‑year term.
The discussion began after a motion was offered to reconsider a previous nomination. Several council members argued for continuity and experience; Councilmember McLaughlin said Roberts "has been on CRWA... She's done a lot of work... She gives us detailed reports after she meets up at CRWA." Councilwoman Danetta Roberts described her committee roles and oversight work: "I am the chair of the legislative affairs committee... We are currently working on the FY27 budget," and stressed that "CRWA is not responsible for locating additional water supplies for the city."
Other council members pushed back, saying the mayor’s presence at regional tables could be beneficial. Councilmember Sanchez Stevens and others asked for clearer, standardized reporting from any council member serving on outside boards; Roberts agreed to provide monthly meeting summaries and committee recaps going forward.
A motion to appoint Roberts as Cibolo’s CRWA trustee was made and seconded during the meeting; staff treated the nomination as the subject of the accompanying resolution (item 11a) and proceeded to the resolution approval process. The record shows a motion and second on the reappointment and subsequent movement to consider related manager/board appointments and staff recommendations.
The council also discussed related appointments to CRWA’s board of managers and the appropriate staff representative for that operational seat; staff recommended assigning the new assistant public works director to the managers seat instead of the prior ad hoc nomination.
Next steps: Roberts agreed to provide monthly written summaries of CRWA meetings and committee activity to council; the reappointment advanced as the council amended the resolution with the selected nominee so the matter could be finalized in council action.
