Trempealeau County urges state action on transportation funding, approves ATV/UTV ordinance amendment and several road additions

Trempealeau County supervisors approved a series of highway and transportation measures, including a resolution urging the Wisconsin governor and legislature to enact a comprehensive, sustainable transportation funding solution and multiple local highway items introduced by the county highway committee.
The funding resolution asks the state to provide reliable revenue growth for long-term planning, use responsible bonding and general purpose revenue prudently, and adjust transportation user fees to preserve purchasing power for reconstruction, preservation and safety investments. The clerk was directed to transmit the resolution to the governor's office and state legislators representing Trempealeau County.
The board also approved an amendment to county ordinance 707(2) clarifying that Trempealeau County will reflect WisDOT determinations where the department has exercised authority over ATV/UTV routes on state roadways. Board members questioned how DOT criteria apply; a county speaker noted DOT limits on how far ATVs/UTVs may operate on highways without shoulders and that clubs commonly reimburse signage costs.
In separate highway actions, the board added Erling Road (Town of Unity), Linden Road (Town of Gale), and Park Road (Town of Trempealeau) to the County Aid Highway System so those municipalities can apply for county aid reimbursement for eligible work. Ryan Hilton, representing the Town of Trempealeau, described the Park Road sections (1.1 miles) and said a signed Wisconsin DNR resolution and lifetime easement support the addition; he urged approval so the roads can be better maintained and policed.
Finally, the board authorized the county administrator to submit a grant request for the County NN bridge replacement project and approved a snowmobile trail maintenance grant application to fund trail upkeep. Each measure was moved, seconded and approved by roll call during the meeting.
