Sodexo tells Southwest School Corporation board it will expand summer meal service; introduces contest winner

Sodexo representatives updated the Southwest School Corporation board on food-service operations and summer meal planning at the March 18 meeting, and introduced Leila Hyatt, the district's 2026 Sodexo contest winner.
A Sodexo representative reported the summer food program will run May 27 through July 1 (six weeks, up from four) and said the plan is to prepare for approximately 600 meals per day, the same target as last year: "We're gonna plan on 600 like we did last year," the representative said. Staff noted planning and logistics remain in progress and that meal counts can vary.
Sodexo staff described upgraded reporting and inspection systems (SMS inspections) that allow staff to take photographs, upload inspection notes and track corrective actions with color-coded status indicators. The presenter said custodial and grounds updates are tracked in the same system and that work orders and completed tasks are monitored centrally.
Special guest Leila Hyatt was introduced and shared food samples and a recipe; she discussed modifying recipes for dietary needs (for example, using turkey when ground chicken was unavailable). Board members and staff thanked the presenter and recognized staff for routine awards and service.
The board received the update; no formal board action was recorded on the Sodexo report.
