Summary
Board members recognized Tech Challenge teams and coaches, a state wrestling finalist, and an Applebee’s teacher-of-the-month; the board publicly thanked staff for their work and presented photos.
The Logansport Community School Corporation board highlighted several community achievements at its Feb. 9 meeting, recognizing students, coaches and staff for academic and extracurricular accomplishments.
A staff member read the names of Tech Challenge winners and runners-up — including Evan Adams, Jordan Cunningham, Shelby Ping, Charlie English, Veda Fagner, Allison Miranda Castro and Jose Romero — and thanked coaches John Vales and Jeff Shimanovsky. The board invited the students to pose for a photo and congratulated them for representing Logansport at statewide competitions.
The board also recognized Quentin McLeod for reaching the boys-state wrestling finals. A presenter summarized his season, noting he had just one regular-season loss, advanced through sectional and regional rounds and represented the district at semi-state before advancing to the state finals.
Kelly Pearson introduced Sarah Sodervik as Applebee’s teacher of the month for Columbia Elementary, praising her quick response when a teacher resigned and for mentoring new and English-language-learner teachers. Presenters said the award was the result of a peer nomination process rather than an administrative selection.
Board members offered congratulatory remarks to students and staff, noting the positive community response and the benefits of strong extracurricular and classroom leadership.
