Resident criticizes board delay in responding to superintendent misconduct complaint

A resident told the Tyronox USD 4 6 board on March 9 that a January complaint alleging gender discrimination, bullying and threats by the superintendent did not receive an immediate investigation and that the district’s delay endangered staff and discouraged reporting.

“The investigation did not begin for 18 days,” the resident said, adding that some board members already knew details from earlier employee reports. The commenter said the board placed the superintendent on paid leave after the investigation began but by then staff had continued working in his presence for three weeks, causing fear and added burden.

The resident urged the board to prioritize employee safety over protecting positions, saying prolonged silence about the complaint had left families uninformed and suggested the possibility of a quiet settlement or negotiated resignation. “Anything short of full accountability sends a clear message, that power protects itself,” the commenter warned.

Board members did not respond substantively during the public comment period. Later in the meeting the board recessed to an executive session to discuss non-elected personnel matters; when it returned the chair stated there was no action coming out of the executive session at that time.

The resident framed the matter as one of future reporting and institutional trust: "This moment is bigger than one superintendent," the commenter said. The transcript shows no public denial or rebuttal from district leadership during open session and no vote or public action was announced following the executive session.
