Decatur council approves several ordinances on second reading, purchases meters and adopts consent agenda

At its March 9 meeting the Decatur City Council approved several action items on second reading and authorized a purchase of cellular-read water meters.

On second reading the council approved an ordinance amending the official zoning map for approximately 47 acres at Deer Park (motion moved by a council member and seconded by Mayor Mike McQuiston), an ordinance to declare unopposed candidates which allowed the city to cancel a joint election with the county and Decatur ISD, and an amendment adding a standard meter-box detail to the subdivision construction standards (Ordinance 2026-0308). The council also approved an amendment to reopen the application period for the West Fork Public Utility Agency so another entity may join; staff said Walnut Creek from the county indicated it would join.

In a separate action the council approved a purchase of bond-funded cellular water meters and related products from Atlas Utility Supply Company for $160,008.25 as a draw on debt issued in the 2024 series to continue a meter-replacement program that the city said allows homeowners near-real-time access to water-use data.

The consent agenda was approved by motion and second; the mayor announced the consent agenda passed unanimously. With no further agenda requests the mayor adjourned the meeting at 06:49.
