Decatur receives clean audit opinion for FY 2024–25; council authorizes report distribution

City auditors presented the outside audit for fiscal year 2024–25 and reported an unmodified (clean) opinion on the city's financial statements. Josh Finley (Speaker 11), the lead auditing executive, summarized the audit scope, noted upcoming Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) changes that staff will adopt and said there were no material disagreements with management.
"You all did receive an unmodified opinion," Finley told the council, calling it the best of the standard opinion types. Councilor Speaker 10 moved to approve the outside audit report for distribution; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Staff and the auditor highlighted future accounting standards (GASB statements) that will change reporting formats but are not expected to materially change reported numbers. The council took no further accounting action at the meeting.
