The Decatur Planning and Zoning Commission elected Mason Woodruff as vice chair and approved several procedural actions at its Tuesday, Jan. 6 meeting, including continuances and 30-day extension requests for residential plats and a final plat for a police station at 1601 South Church Street.
Planning Director Lisa Hanning Hannon told the commission the public hearing for the Newell Terrace plan-development amendment was being continued to the Feb. 3 meeting because staff and the applicant are still reconciling plat changes. “The plat must match the PD conceptual plan,” Hanning Hannon said, and staff is working through layout changes that include roadway widths and fire turnaround lanes required for emergency access. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
The commission approved the continuance for Newell Terrace by voice vote after brief technical questions from commissioners about the required changes. Hanning Hannon said the roadway and turnaround revisions affect three related application documents and that staff will return with updated plats.
On procedural business, Chair Cecil Lamond nominated Mason Woodruff for vice chair; Woodruff accepted and the commission approved the nomination by voice vote. The commission also approved the Dec. 2 meeting minutes after a motion and second on the floor.
Two related items at 700 Deer Park Road — listed in the meeting as preliminary and final plats for Nivell Terrace (townhomes) — were each granted 30-day extensions while staff and the applicant work through the same platting and fire-safety details. The commission voted to approve the extensions by voice vote.
The consent agenda, which included a final plat for the new police station at 1601 South Church Street (a new final plat was required because easements were moved during construction), was approved without comment. Planning staff said no special February meeting will be required; the continued items fall within the 30-day timeline for the Feb. 3 meeting.
The commission’s next scheduled meeting is Feb. 3. The chair adjourned the meeting at 5:47 p.m.
