The Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education approved its consent agenda, which included recommended contracts for the 2026–27 school year and recorded several staff resignations and retirements.
District staff member Baumann presented new-hire recommendations including Skyler Kelly (speech-language pathologist), Abigail Burns (instrumental music), Greta Kinison and Gabby Wall (special-education teachers), John Mann (junior-high industrial technology), Patricia Clayman (junior-high ELL), Crillie (elementary teacher), and Trent Simpson (physical-education teacher). Baumann also reported resignations and retirements that will take effect at the end of the school year, naming Nancy Bohe, Erin Bradley, Ian Bankston, Monica Johnson, Brent Polerai and Michelle Van Hooten.
Separately, the board considered the resignation of Alyssa Rood. Baumann said Rood had signed a binding agreement with the district but later received and accepted an offer from a district where she resides. The board voted to accept Rood's resignation pending hire and approval of a suitable replacement; members discussed that there is no fixed policy end date for finding a replacement and that past practice has required staff to plan to be present if hires extend into the summer months. The motion passed 4-0.
During the public-comment portion, Jan Haberman identified herself and praised the board's leadership and several district initiatives, including the junior-high cell-phone policy; she urged greater transparency and more discussion of committee work at the board level. The board noted the rules for public comment and that it cannot discuss or act on matters not on the agenda during that period.
The board announced its next regular meetings on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. and Monday, April 27 at noon, to be held at the district central administration offices.
