Mayor proclaims Nov. 24 “Medical City Decatur Day”

Mayor Mike McQuiston proclaimed Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, as Medical City Decatur Day during the City of Decatur council meeting, citing the hospital’s history, accreditations and expanded services.
The proclamation noted the hospital traces its beginnings to a 1967 city ordinance, opened in 1974, and has grown into two campuses with roughly 150 beds and about 1,000 employees. “Medical City Decatur has grown into 2 campuses, a 150 bed facility… now employing approximately 1,000 colleagues,” McQuiston said when reading the proclamation.
A Medical City representative thanked the council for the recognition and said the hospital recently joined the HCA/Medical City system and has added specialty services in 2025, including orthopedics and electrophysiology cardiology. “Our goal remains the same and that is how can we keep patients close to home…we are in a good place,” the representative said.
The mayor and council posed for the proclamation and the council recessed into the remainder of its agenda after the presentation.
