"Since we instituted this for the 2 year trial, we had 10 pick up Labor Day in 2024 and 11 pick up Memorial Day," Catherine said, adding that continuing the incentive reduced reliance on traveling staff who cost significantly more per hour.
A motion to formalize the policy was made and seconded; commissioners voted in favor. The motion authorizes staff to prepare a formal policy document specifying holidays covered and operational details for implementation.
Catherine and commissioners said the program is intended to maintain coverage, realize net cost savings compared with travel staff rates, and support continuity of care for nursing clients. Staff will draft policy language and return it to the board for final adoption or incorporate it into upcoming budget amendments if required.
