Council members and staff recognized outgoing council member Carrie Swartz for her more than seven years of service and presented keepsakes before swearing in Erin Hartwell as the newly elected council member for Place 2.
Ed Siganowitz read a prepared statement from Mayor Patrick McNulty expressing gratitude for Swartz’s service, and several council members offered personal remarks about projects completed during her tenure. Council members highlighted accomplishments including Laguna Boulevard improvements, ADA walkover upgrades, early e‑scooter ordinance work and other local ordinances and projects.
Swartz thanked fellow council members and staff and said her priority remains advancing projects she began in office, including work to establish a South Padre Island Ecotourism District and efforts to bring an on‑island emergency care unit in partnership with a medical group.
Judge Benito Boachoa administered the oath to Erin Hartwell. During the swearing‑in, Hartwell recited: “I, Erin Hartwell, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the duties of council member, place 2 of the city of South Padre Island… and defend the constitution…” Council then moved on to the regular agenda.
What happens next: Erin Hartwell will serve as council member, Place 2; Swartz said she will continue working on outstanding projects from outside office.
