The South Padre Island City Council approved a budget amendment to move $532,537 from series 2024 and 2025 tax notes to complete the outfitting of Ambulance No. 1 and No. 2 and to cover change order No. 1 for a new fire truck, Fire Chief Jim Pigg said.
“Mayor, City Council, Jim Pigg, fire chief, South Padre,” Pigg said in introducing the item. He recounted that on May 1, 2024 a related resolution was passed for the fire department and trucks and that the city returned in June 2025 regarding ambulances. Pigg said the council is being asked to transfer money so the department can begin issuing purchase orders and receive outfitting equipment as the vehicles arrive later this year.
A council member moved to approve; another council member seconded the motion and the council voted to carry it. No roll-call tally was provided in the transcript. After the vote the council adjourned.
The transcript references a prior resolution in May 2024 and follow-up action in June 2025; the resolution number was not clearly recorded in the transcript and appears as “2 40 or 2,411.” The chief said the secondary ambulance is expected later this year.
